Disk Sander

The disk sander on the Shopsmith does the usual disk sanding stuff, plus some things that you can't do on an ordinary disk sander. Here's a good example from a real shop situation.

Sanding a banjo peghead can be a challenge. It won't sit flat on a table, and it's hard to sand the edges without rounding them over. On the other hand, it's a good test for the Shopsmith.

I clamp the neck to the Shopsmith table. The "ears", which kept it from lying flat, hang over the edge.

The headstock is moved into place.

With the project securely clamped, I can draw the disk into the wood, which allows me to sand it without rounding over the edges.
